2023 UMKC Real Estate Symposium

Continuing Education Credit for Brokers and Appraisers

Sponsored by the Lewis White Real Estate Center and their Advisory Board.

Join your peers to learn, network, and get 6 hours of MO and KS CE credit (approval).

You will hear expert speakers on topics like the local, national, global economies and how these impact the commercial real estate industry and your business:

  • Insights on trends in the macro economy from Tom Hoenig, Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Mercatus Center. Former President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of KC and a member of the Federal Reserve System's Federal Open Market Committee from 1991 to 2011 and Former FDIC Director who served as Vice Chairman from 2012-2018.

  • Insights on trends in our industry and how KC commercial real estate performs relative to comparable cities from Brandon Svec, Co-Star National Director for Retail Analytics

The theme of this year’s Symposium reflects the need for Resilience + Agility to overcome challenges and deliver new solutions amidst disruptive forces in the economy, the workplace, and geo-politics. Our panels have been created to share the latest in:

  • SmartCities/SmartBuildings and trends in funding and regulations related to Sustainability and the Built Environment – what building owners and property managers need to know
  • Affordable Housing and what we can learn from successful projects within and outside our Metro
  • A panel of major developers – from Price Development Group, VanTrust and Opus--will share lessons they’ve learned and strategies they’ve deployed to survive and grow in the midst of the many chaotic forces in the economy and our industry

Our keynote speaker is Stacie Paine, President of Crown Center Redevelopment Corporation and corporate officer at Hallmark Cards, Inc. For decades, Corporate, Civic and Community leaders have collaborated with Government to drive growth in Downtown KCMO and the overall KC Market. Stacie plays a major role in all 3 sectors–Corporate through her executive leadership for 30 years at Crown Center--a 50 year old mixed use eco-system--and Civic and Community with her roles on the Boards of the KC Sports Authority and VisitKC, the KC Streetcar Authority, and the Civic Council and Greater KC Chamber of Commerce. Come hear Stacie’s thoughts on growth in the Urban Core – how it has changed in the past 20 years and new factors transforming the Greater KC Market in the decade ahead.
