Kevin K. Nunnink was the principal and chairman of Integra Realty Resources and a member of the Lewis White Real Estate Advisory Board. He was a huge champion for creating educational opportunities for the Kansas City real estate community. After his death in 2009, the Kevin K. Nunnink Speaker Series was established and continues to bring high quality real estate experts to speak to our students and community.

Mary Ludgin
Heitman’s Managing Director, Head of Global Research and an equity owner of the firm. She is the author of numerous articles and research studies relating to real estate markets, portfolio management and strategy. Mary is a member of Heitman’s Board of Managers, Management Committee, Private Equity and Debt Investment Committees and Private Equity Valuation Committee. Prior to joining Heitman, she was an urban planner for the City of Chicago and she worked in retail site location.
Robert Kaplan
Martin Marshall Professor of Management Practice in Business Administration at Harvard Business School and author of the recently published book: What You’re Really Meant To Do: A Road Map for Reaching Your Unique Potential, (Harvard Business Review Press, 2013) will share his beliefs that individuals should create their own personal standard for success based on their personal potential. Kaplan will discuss the importance of finding your own unique path and the road map that will enable you to defy conventional wisdom, resist peer pressure, and carve out a path that fits your unique skills and passions.
Before becoming a Harvard Business School professor, Kaplan was involved with investment banking and investment management at The Goldman Sachs Group, where he served as vice chairman.
Ronald Altoon
A visionary unafraid to speak out on issues, Mr. Altoon’s priority is development of a conceptual vision and a workable strategy to assure completion of a project. Sensitive to context and culture, his design philosophy conjugates architectural tradition and design theory to create projects that accrue in value over time. Former president of The American Institute of Architects and a leader in the real estate industry, he understands the impact of design on the communities that it serves.
John Schulman
John Schulman has done public interest work on Middle East peace issues as well as with the U.N. War Crimes Tribunal for Rwanda; with the Government of India; and the US Department of State. In 1999, Mr. Shulman and colleagues with negotiation expertise founded Alignor, LLC to assist organizations in implementing an interest- based approach to decision-making and negotiation. Alignor’s approach is currently used by several large organizations, including Imation Corp., which awarded Mr. Shulman its prestigious “Chairman’s Business Turning Point Award.”
Prof. William Poorvu
We are honored to present Harvard Professor William Poorvu to speak on the current economic crisis: how it was driven by financial excesses, real estate speculation and its predictability. Poorvu will discuss how these man-made economic disasters occur in ten-year cycles based on our five-year memory span. In addition, Poorvu will discuss the implications a system that rewards short tenn speculative behavior in the real estate and market investing has on the broader economy.
Professor Poorvu is the Class of 1961 Adjunct Professor in Entrepreneurship, Emeritus at the Harvard Business School. He is the author of several real estate books, including Creating and Growing Real Estate Wealth: The 4 Stages to a Lifetime of Success, 2008 and The Real Estate Game – The Intelligent Guide to decision-Making and Investment, 1999. Currently, Poorvu is on the board of directors for The Baupost group, LLC, a company he co-founded in 1982. In addition, he is a life trustee and fonner vice chair and treasurer of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, a trustee of the Gardner Museum and vice chair of the National Public Radio Foundation as well as a member of numerous other charitable organizations.
Bart Harvey
New Thinking on Affordable Housing
Bart Harvey was recently chosen as the 2008 recipient of The Urban Land Institute J.C. Nichols Prize for Visionaries in Urban Development as well as the National Housing Conference’s 2008 Housing Person of the Year.
A graduate of Harvard University, Mr. Harvey joined Enterprise soon after its founding in June, 1984 and succeeded James Rouse as Chairman and CEO in October, 1993. Enterprise is a leading provider of capital and expertise for affordable housing and community development and continues to shape ways to endure better outcomes for low-income families, such as by bringing together leaders from the environmental and community development fields to create the Green Communities initiative in 2004. This $555 million initiative has far exceeded its five-year goal of building more than 8,500 affordable homes that promote health, conserve energy and natural resources, and promote easy access to jobs, schools and services.
Mr. Harvey was appointed by congress to the Millennium Housing Commission from 2000-2002 and has been a Director of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta as well as on the advisory boards for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. He has served on numerous Boards including the Baltimore Education Scholarship Trust. Center State, the National Housing Conference, National Housing Trust, and Shepherd’s Clinic.
Gus Faucher
Gus Faucher is the director of macroeconomics at Moody’s Economy com. He is the editor of Précis Macro and the U.S./Canada edition of the Dismal Scientist Website as well as a frequent contributor to the Dismal Scientist.
Faucher covers Federal Reserve monetary policy and federal goverment fiscal and policy issues for Moody’s Economy.com. Prior to joining Moody’s, Faucher was a senior economist for six years at the U.S. Treasury Department.
He has also taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Faucher earned his Ph.D. in economics at the University of Pennsylvania, with concentrations in labor economics and public economics. He also has an A.B. in economics from Cornell University.
Richard Peiser
A Kansas City native, Harvard Professor and distinguished lecturer will present a discussion on the revitalization of first and second generation shopping centers with a special focus on the history of the Country Club Plaza.
He is an entrepreneur, planner-developer as well as an expert in real estate finance, with an interest in spatial and design issues and the economics of land development. Through various partnerships, he has engaged in home building, apartment development, industrial portfolio acquisition, and large-scale land development and management.
His primary research focuses on developing an understanding real estate developers’ responses to the marketplace and institutional environments in which they operate, particularly in the areas of urban redevelopment, affordable housing, and suburban sprawl.
