If you are not currently enrolled at UMKC but interested in taking Bloch School courses, this page provides information for you as well as information for current UMKC students (not Bloch students) interested in taking Bloch courses.

Community Member

You may enroll in certain courses at the Bloch School without applying for admission to a degree program. This type of course enrollment does not constitute admission to UMKC or the Bloch School.

Undergraduate

Applicants who have the appropriate prerequisite courses may take up to nine (9) credit hours of Bloch courses.

Students who are preparing for the CPA may take undergraduate accounting courses with approval from the department chair and completion of appropriate prerequisite courses.

Graduate Non-degree Programs

Individuals with a related master’s degree may enroll in graduate business, accounting or public administration coursework provided they have met the prerequisite requirements for each course. Students must provide evidence of their degree and are limited to six (6) credit hours.

 

Get Started

  1. Reach out to the Bloch School Graduate Programs Office (link to blochgrad@umkc.edu) to discuss your interest and learn of requirements.
  2. If you are eligible to take the course(s), complete a visiting student application through UMKC Admissions.
    Provide transcripts (can be unofficial) to show completion of a bachelor’s degree or a related master’s degree and to confirm satisfaction of course prerequisites. Transcript can be uploaded as part of application process.
  3. Once notified of admission, please reach out to Bloch Graduate Programs Office for assistance with enrollment. Student from a School other than UMKC

Student from a School other than UMKC

A visiting student is a student that currently seeks a degree at an institution outside UMKC but wishes to take Bloch School classes.

  • Undergraduate students are limited to a total of nine (9) credit hours of Bloch School courses.
  • Graduate students are limited to a total of six (6) credit hours of Bloch School courses. Proof of admission to a graduate program will be required.
  • ACCTNG 210, ACCTNG 211, DSOM 211, ENT 215, ENT 315, MGT 100, MGT 256, and MIS 202 are open to all undergraduate students who meet any noted prerequisites.
  • Before enrolling in/paying for a course, students may wish to obtain something in writing from their home institution that ensures that the Bloch School course will count toward their degree program. 

Get Started

  1. Begin by filling out a visiting student application through UMKC Admissions.
  2. Provide transcripts (can be unofficial) to show completion of course prerequisites. Transcript can be uploaded as part of application process.
  3. Once the student receives an admission decision, go to the Advisor Directory to find the appropriate non-degree advisor for enrollment assistance.

Current UMKC Student

Students that are not Bloch students, but wish to take Bloch courses have the following options:

Undergraduate

  • Students in the Bachelor of Information Technology program (BIT) may take the required courses provided you meet the prerequisites.
  • Students in the Business Minor or Entrepreneurship Minor may take up to thirty (30) credit hours of specified Bloch courses provided you meet the prerequisites, and after meeting with a Bloch School academic advisor.
  • Students interested in other courses should submit a Bloch School petition for exception to request approval to enroll in restricted courses. The completed petition should be submitted to your advisor who will forward to the appropriate contact in the Business and Management MAP.
  • ACCTNG 210, ACCTNG 211, DSOM 211, ENT 215, ENT 315, MGT 100, MGT 256 and MIS 202 are open to all undergraduate students who meet the prerequisites.
