is an Associate Teaching Professor of Management at the Henry W. Bloch School of Management. She works with undergraduate and graduate students as a faculty member teaching business communication and as a co-advisor for the nationally ranked UMKC Enactus team, an organization where students complete social entrepreneurship projects on a global scale.
Erin holds a 2007 Masters in Communication and Rhetoric from the University of Kansas and a 2015 Graduate Certificate in Executive and Professional Coaching from the University of Texas at Dallas. She also earned a 2003 Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with a Minor in History, from the University of Kansas.
Erin’s teaching emphasis has included courses in communication theory, public speaking, effective business communication, innovation, and documentary film. She developed a business communication curriculum for the Bloch School and was the founding Director of the Bloch Communication Center from 2008 to 2018 – an academic center focused on polishing students’ professional written and verbal communication. With a commitment to cross-campus collaboration, Erin has represented the Bloch School on the UMKC Faculty Senate and the University Writing and Reading Board. Erin serves as a faculty mentor for students in the Honors Program and has taught honors courses.
As a professional coach and speaker on communication topics, Erin has consulted with organizations large and small in the corporate, non-profit, health care, and government fields. She helps business leaders apply effective business communication strategies and tactics to real-world situations, such as managing the intergenerational workforce, the impacts of digital communication, effective client communication, personal branding for the job market, and high-stakes presentations.
Erin has presented her scholarly research at several regional and national conferences. Her scholarly papers and presentations have focused on campus engagement, social entrepreneurship education, public address, and political communication.
Other work experiences have included serving as field director and professional campaign staff for a 2004 congressional campaign in Kansas’s 3rd Congressional District and working as fundraising coordinator for the Agriculture Council of America and the National Agri-Marketing Association in Overland Park, Kansas.
