The scholarship that I received for me to obtain a Bachelor’s degree at UMKC, and I'm grateful for the opportunity.
What piece of advice would you share with high school students or transfer students that are just beginning their college search process?
People need people. College can be tough, so it is super important to connect with your classmates, get to know the staff, and join clubs/spaces that are made for you. They usually know people and resources that can really help you out along the way.
How do you (or do you plan to) find balance between school and your personal life?
The way that I improved is by treating school like my ‘9-5’. I head to campus early and spend the day catching up on everything academic, from assignments to studying, which can take me from morning to evening. On the car ride home before I get in, I put on calm music and focus on the road, knowing I'm heading back to catch up with my family. Then I repeat the cycle the next day. Still balance is important, because of you bring that work (school) mindset home into your comfort space, it can quickly drain you.
What is your favorite thing about Kansas City? What parts of Kansas City are you excited to explore?
My favorite thing about Kansas City is to go on walks/run at the Riverfront and from the walks, I make my way in the city and explore the businesses that are locally owned. I also go to the City Market which is right up that ally. Betty Rae’s is awesome too!
