The reason that I chose UMKC is because of the scholarships and opportunities that are available here. I was able to get my school paid for in full here, allowing me to solely focus on my academics.
What piece of advice would you share with high school students or transfer students that are just beginning their college search process?
The most important advice I would offer to fellow students is to never hesitate to ask questions and seek support. As a transfer student, I’ve learned that no two institutions are exactly alike, so it’s essential to approach new environments with an open mind and a genuine willingness to learn and adapt.
How do you (or do you plan to) find balance between school and your personal life?
The most effective way I’ve found to balance school and personal life is by staying highly organized. I rely heavily on a calendar to keep track of everything I consider important, ensuring that nothing falls through the cracks. I also believe it's essential to remember that, as students, we are human beings first — we have lives outside of academics. Whenever I feel overwhelmed, I make it a priority to step back and reset, allowing myself the space to regain focus and maintain well-being.
What is your favorite thing about Kansas City? What parts of Kansas City are you excited to explore?
What I love most about Kansas City is the strong sense of community. UMKC is located in a vibrant part of the city, offering countless opportunities to explore and engage with everything Kansas City has to offer. I especially enjoy taking walks through the Crossroads Arts District, where you’ll find a variety of unique shops and restaurants. Plus, being home to the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals means there’s no shortage of exciting sporting events to enjoy throughout the year.
