What does a normal day at UMKC look like for you?

My day starts off with me going to my Bloch Ambassador hours in the office and then heading to class in the afternoon. My classes involve a lot of group projects, so when I’m not in class, I’m gathering with my groups so that we can work on projects together.

What do you wish you had known before entering college?

I’ve lived at home through college and went back and forth between home and school without getting very involved on campus. I’ve participated in some activities outside of school but I wish that I had chosen to stay on campus and get more involved with some of the organizations on campus.

How do you find balance between school and your personal life?

I use my Sundays for a rest day and to prepare for everything in the coming week. Beyond just resting and preparing, I normally spend Sundays with family and friends, looking for new things to experience. I also, use this time to make a to-do list to ensure that I get everything done for the up-coming week.

Aside from UMKC, what part of Kansas City would you consider your home away from home?

My home away from home would be anywhere that provides different ways to provide myself with self-care. From getting manicures, pedicures, massages, and facials, I really enjoy going with my friends as my way to regroup for the upcoming school week.

What does a normal day at UMKC look like for you?

I usually start my day off by getting a coffee on the way to the office for my Bloch Ambassador hours. During my office hours, I work with the other Bloch Ambassadors on various events, respond to student emails, and help with anything needed around the office. After that, I attend my classes. My typical afternoon after my classes includes different meetings for the various student organizations I’m involved with and study time in the library.

What do you wish you had known before entering college?

I wish I had known more about the different scholarships offered to incoming freshman other than the automatic scholarships. There are so many competitive scholarships offered through not just UMKC, but local scholarships as well. It’s basically free money waiting for you, and it seems like fewer people apply every year!

How do you find balance between school and your personal life?

Since I live at home, I try to do my school activities like homework and studying on campus. I’ve found that if I do these things in a place like the library, I get a lot more done than If I were to do it on my couch. I have to isolate myself from others when I do my work, or else I will inevitably start a conversation. I save at least one day during the weekend purely to relax, have a good time with my friends, and explore KC.

Aside from UMKC, what part of Kansas City would you consider your home away from home?

I would be betraying my city if I didn’t say Arrowhead Stadium. When football season starts, there is nothing like being in those stands with a roaring crowd watching our Chiefs play. Especially with friends and a good tailgate tent, a day at Arrowhead cannot be matched! How ‘bout them chiiieeeefffssss.

What does a normal day at UMKC look like for you?

A normal day at UMKC consists of bouncing from class to class, with my ambassador office hours sprinkled in-between. A few of my classes are composed of group projects, so I spend a decent amount of time meeting with them to work on our projects and complete assignments.

What do you wish you had known before entering college?

I wish I had paid more attention to my high school GPA and my ACT score. These are key components in getting scholarships and financial aid to help pay for college. I wish I learned more about the cost associated with attending college, as well as the other competitive scholarship opportunities. I would advise everyone to apply for any scholarships you are eligible for, as they can stack up quickly and cut the cost of college quite a bit.

How do you find balance between school and your personal life?

I like to use Sundays as a reset day to get caught up on any homework that I have due early next week. I also like to give myself a rough outline of the week and what I need to get accomplished, so I don’t fall behind on anything. I usually like to have Friday and Saturday to hang out with my friends and family, which is well needed after a busy week.

Aside from UMKC, what part of Kansas City would you consider your home away from home?

I really enjoy the River Market. I love going down there on the weekends in the summer to see the market filled with different vendors ranging from antiques to local produce. I am also a big fan of the sprint center, as I have seen many of my favorite artists perform there.

What does a normal day at UMKC look like for you?

My normal day at UMKC consists of going to class in the morning, then taking a break to eat something at the UMKC Café. After that, I head to either my job at the Bloch Career Services or to my other job as a Bloch Ambassador. Then I go either have class, or I go to the GYM at Swinney Center to work out before going home.

What do you wish you had known before entering college?

I wish I knew about all the scholarship opportunities we have on campus, their requirements, and other opportunities related to jobs on campus. UMKC offers so many ways to pay for your tuition, but you must look for them.

How do you find balance between school and your personal life?

I try to always make time for my personal life. I organize my schedule between going to class, work, doing homework and my personal life. I leave my early mornings and late evenings open, that way I have time to do what I need to do in my personal life and have time to do my homework as well.

Aside from UMKC, what part of Kansas City would you consider your home away from home?

I would say that Children’s Mercy Park (Sporting KC Soccer Stadium) is my second home besides UMKC, because I love soccer. Lately, I have been enjoying going to the Sporting KC games and enjoying the environment there. I would spend more time there if the tickets were cheaper, but it is a great experience!
