M.S.F. Admissions

Advance your career.

Graduates of the Bloch M.S.F. degree program are prepared to analyze data and employ modeling techniques to reach financial decisions. They can determine the fair and appropriate value of public and private business entities and perform risk management.

Completing the M.S.F. program prepares students for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification, in addition to other career advancement skills valued in various financial fields. Please reach out to the Graduate Programs Office with any questions.

Apply to the M.S.F. Program

You may apply to the M.S.F. program and begin in any semester. Applicants are encouraged to apply by the priority deadlines, although rolling admissions are offered. Please note that if your completed application is not received by a semester’s priority deadline, we cannot guarantee admission for that semester. The priority deadlines are as follows:

  • Fall start – August 1
  • Spring start – December 15
  • Summer start – May 1

The Bloch School reviews completed applications in the order received and will inform you of an admission committee decision. Please allow two weeks from when the completed application is received to when a decision is made by the admissions committee.

How to Apply

Admission to the M.S.F. program is very competitive. A completed application includes the following:

  • UMKC application, plus application fee.
  • Official transcripts* One copy from all colleges/universities attended, sent to:

      *Applicants must have completed a bachelor’s or first level professional degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • GMAT Test scores
    • Test scores must be less than five years old at the time of admission. The Bloch School’s GMAT code is F77-XF-18.
    • The GMAT is not required for working professionals in a related field or applicants who meet one of the following criteria:
      • You must have completed a bachelor’s or first-level professional degree from a regionally accredited institution.
      • GMAT waivers may be available to applicants with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA or two-years-plus of
        work experience
    • Automatic admission is also granted for applicants who meet one of the following criteria:
      • 600 on the GMAT (or equivalent score on the GRE)
      • 500 GMAT (or equivalent score on the GRE) with a 3.00 cumulative or in-major GPA
    • Students facing financial challenges may apply for a very limited number of GMAT fee waivers. The fee waiver information form (PDF) must be submitted at the time the exam appointment is scheduled. Applications are considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Receipt of a GMAT fee waiver is not a guarantee of admission.
    • If the candidate does not meet any of the above criteria, the application will be reviewed by the Director of Graduate Programs and/or a related Admissions Committee for admission into the program.
  • Alternate exam scores: Faculty will consider GRE based on ETS GMAT/GRE Conversion chart. Also considered will be the LSAT and PCAT scores. For the LSAT and PCAT, generally scores must be at or above the 50th percentile in each section of the exam. Scores must be less than five years old at the time of consideration for admission.
  • A current resume.
    • The resume can be uploaded to your application at the time of submission.
    • Please note that the following are not requirements of admission:
      • Letters of recommendation: None are required as part of the application process.
      • Work experience: None is required to be accepted to the Bloch M.S.F.
  • A one-page goal statement
    • The goal statement should describe your career plans, why you desire to attend UMKC, and why you want to obtain the M.S.F. This should be your own original writing. Any quote used should be properly attributed to the author. Please include information about your current employment (part time/full time, and related travel commitments).
    • You can upload your personal statement to your application. Please make sure to include your name on all documents.

The Bloch School reviews completed applications in the order received and will inform you of admission committee decisions in writing, mailed to your address. You should allow two weeks from when the complete application is received by Bloch until there is a decision from the committee.

If the candidate does not meet any of the above criteria, the application is reviewed by the Director of Graduate Programs and/or related Admissions Committee for admission into the program.

International Applicants

International students must submit application materials to UMKC’s International Student Affairs Office. Application materials must include:

  • Application for admission and application fee.
  • Academic credentials (transcripts, marks sheets, score cards, degree certificates).
  • GMAT Test scores

Tuition

  • The UMKC Metro Rate (in-state tuition) is available to graduate students who are residents of Missouri and the following Kansas counties: Atchison, Douglas, Franklin, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Leavenworth, Miami, Osage, Shawnee and Wyandotte.
  • Part-time domestic students in the M.S.F. program (students taking one class (3.0 credit hours) to two classes (6.0 credit hours) in fall and spring semesters, and one class in summer semester), will pay in-state tuition regardless of your residency (excludes International students).
