Executive MBA alumni are invited to explore the business and cultural landscape in Australia over this 7 day adventure. During the trip you’ll:

  • Visit 5 different companies with fellow alumni
  • Explore additional companies of your choice with pre-arranged appointments upon request
  • Learn about the business and cultural landscape in Australia through cultural excursions and pre-departure learning sessions

You are welcome to bring an adult guest and arrive early or stay late to extend your visit and explore beyond Sydney.

Saturday, April 25 Arrive in Sydney* & group welcome dinner
Sunday, April 26 Group cultural excursion to learn about the indigenous cultures of Australia
Monday, April 27 Morning company visit as a group, afternoon on own
Tuesday, April 28 Morning company visit as a group, afternoon on own
Wednesday, April 29 Morning company visit as a group, afternoon on own
Thursday, April 30 Morning company visit as a group, afternoon on own
Friday, May 1 Morning company visit as a group, afternoon on own, group wrap-up dinner
Saturday, May 2 Check-out of hotel and return home – or continue on your own itinerary*

*You are welcome to extend your trip by making your own arrangements to arrive a few days early or stay a few days later.

Morning company visits:
We will arrange one group visit to a company or organization each morning including transportation to/from. Participants will be included in the planning process so that we can select companies and organizations that are of the most interest to those attending.

A few potential options include: Cerner (healthcare/IT), BlueScope (steel), VMLY&R (marketing), Trimec Industries (engineering/distribution), and Wesfarmers (diverse company that is one of Australia’s largest listed companies and employers). A visit to the U.S. Embassy Commercial Services office is also worth consideration.

Additional company visits:
If you have an interest in an industry, company, or organization that isn’t selected for one of the group visits, we will be happy to try to arrange an individual appointment for you with at least two months advance notice.

Pre-departure Learning:
Participants will be given six-months of access to GlobeSmart a cultural education used by companies such as Cerner, Cisco, Amazon, and Bayer to prepare their workforce for doing business abroad. You’ll be able to explore over 95 different cultures around the world if your curiosity extends beyond Australia.

Instructor, Mike Allison, will also deliver a pre-departure lecture in addition to the orientation provided by the UMKC Study Abroad office.

Accommodations:
Basecamp for this trip will be the Vibe Hotel North Sydney – in the heart of North Sydney’s bustling business precinct, with easy access to all its cafes and shops, and conveniently close to the train station. As part of the newly reimagined Northpoint, the hotel offers ample choices for dining and shopping, with a dedicated “eat street” and casual dining atrium. A rooftop pool offers sweeping views of city skylines.

Program Fee:

Single occupancy room: $ 2,995 USD
Double occupancy room: $ 3,975 USD

You are welcome to bring a significant other or adult guest; this trip is not suitable for children.

Program Fee Includes:

  • Accommodations from Saturday, April 25th through the evening of Friday, May 1st
  • Breakfast on Sunday, April 26th – Saturday, May 2nd
  • Group dinners on Saturday, April 25th and Friday, May 1st
  • Cultural Excursion & Lunch on Sunday, April 26th
  • Transportation to/from morning company visits on Monday, April 27th – Friday, May 1st
  • Assistance with scheduling additional individual company visits
  • Pre-departure learning resources and sessions
  • Travel health insurance

Airfare:
Airfare is not included in the program fee allowing you to select your preferred airline and seating arrangements, travel dates, and transfers. You are welcome to arrive early or stay late to explore deeper into Australia or plan leisurely stopovers along your travel route.

Deposit:
A $1,000 deposit is required at time of registration. This deposit counts toward the total trip fee and is fully refundable if the minimum required number of participants isn’t met and the trip is cancelled.

Final payment:
The remaining balance is due by March 25, 2020

Passports & International Travel Information:
You (and your guest if someone is travelling with you) must have a valid passport to travel to Australia. A general guideline when traveling abroad is to ensure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond your anticipated return date. Before registering for this trip, please review the information on traveling to Australia on the U.S. Department of State website.

Note: A minimum of 10 registered participants are needed by December 1, 2019 to proceed with the trip. If this number is not met, the trip will be canceled and participants will receive a full refund on the program deposit.
