The course of Dan Lowe’s professional life was forever altered by a letter his father wrote back in 1984. His father, George Lowe, encouraged him to pursue real estate development. Through the years since then, Dan Lowe has gone into every retail development with the goal of making a positive impact on the entire geographic region. Following several critical years under the tutelage of Roger Cohen at Cohen-Esrey, Lowe formed RED Development and RED Legacy with that ambitious goal at the top of his mind.
An early proponent of outdoor, lifestyle shopping centers, RED Development grew quickly over 12 years, eventually building and owning more than 20 million square feet of retail space spread across 12 states. The pundits said many of these projects would not succeed, that the trade areas were too “green,” or that the concept was too original. In a similar fashion, many doctors thought Lowe’s lifetime battle with liver disease would end his life before he could reach 30.
After four liver transplants, Lowe is going strong, and shopping centers like The Legends Outlets of Kansas City stand as testament to his vision and continue to shape the way the region shops and dines.
