John “Jack” Lockton III

Lockton Companies

If there’s one quality that’s true for every entrepreneur, it’s perseverance. Successful entrepreneurs are driven by an inner voice, a dream, a desire to achieve their particular goal. This somehow gives them laser vision, unlimited energy and a will that cannot be denied.

Lockton’s will began with the truest of entrepreneurial rites of passage: cold calls. He started his career in the insurance business, making calls from his home and learning from industry leaders he trusted. By 1966, he had opened Lockton Companies, partnering with his parents to share office expenses. Lockton Companies eventually grew into the world’s largest privately held insurance brokerage and tenth largest overall. It didn’t happen overnight, but he never lost his focus or his enthusiasm for the work.

Jack Lockton had an unstoppable drive and big goals, but his success was also tied to a strong moral compass and respect for his Associates. He was honest, fair and a man of his word.

He never forgot who he was or where he came from, all valuable traits when life calls for perseverance.
