Business Minors

Whether you’re studying at UMKC to be an engineer or an artist, interested in psychology or DNA, business skills and training are needed for every career. One of the ways you can prepare yourself for success is through the Business Minor at the Bloch School at UMKC. Business Minor

The Business Minor at a glance: 18 credit hours of ranked and accredited business education courses covering topics in accounting, marketing and management.

ACTG 210/210L: Introduction to Financial Accounting (30 hours; MATH 110) 3

MGT 330: Understanding the Individual in the Organization 3
Business elective:  
One 300/400 level course (prerequisites as applicable) OR ENT 215/315: Entrepreneurship: An Introduction* 3
Total hours for minor: 18

*For students selecting an entrepreneurship elective, ENT 215/315 is preferred.

How Do I Get Started?

  1. Take MIS 202: Computer Applications in Management (MATH 110 is a prerequisite for this course).
  2. Take ACTG 210/210L: Introduction to Financial Accounting (30 credit hours, MATH 110 are prerequisites).
  3. Come to the Bloch School Student Services Office. You must see an advisor before enrolling in Bloch classes.

Notes

  • Students are required to be in good standing in a UMKC degree program. Students classified as ‘pre-’ can enter the minor but it cannot be added to the student’s program of study until a major has been declared.
  • Transfer students with equivalent course credit will be required to take a more advanced course in the same area.
  • BLA students are eligible for this minor.
  • Students minoring in business are limited to 30 hours of Bloch School courses.
  • Students much achieve a minimum GPA of 2.25 in all Bloch School courses.
  • All 18 hours must be completed at the Bloch School.

Entrepreneurship


Entrepreneurship Minor

The Entrepreneurship Minor helps UMKC students acquire and refine their entrepreneurial skills. The minor is for all UMKC students who want to bring an entrepreneurial perspective to their major field of study. Entrepreneurship minors are required to complete a total of 18 credit hours, including two required entrepreneurship courses and four elective entrepreneurship courses. UMKC students from outside the Bloch School have the option of replacing up to two entrepreneurship electives with discipline-related electives that are consistent with their entrepreneurship focus.

How Do I Get Started?

  1. Take ENT 215/315.
  2. Come to the Bloch School Student Services Office, room 115 Bloch School, to officially declare your minor.

Notes

  • Students must be seen by a Bloch School advisor before enrolling in classes beyond ENT 215/315. Information on advising hours can be found here.
  • Minor is open to Bloch School students in accounting and non-Bloch School students.
  • Non-Bloch School students minoring in entrepreneurship are limited to 30 hours of Bloch School courses.
  • Students must achieve a minimum GPA of 2.25 in all entrepreneurship courses.
  • All 18 hours must be completed in the Bloch School.
  • Students have the option of replacing two entrepreneurship electives with two discipline-related electives that are consistent with their entrepreneurial focus. These electives must be selected from an appropriate list of courses offered by the school that houses their major discipline.
