Doctoral programs at the Bloch School at UMKC

The Bloch School is proud to facilitate student learning through a PhD and IPhD (Interdisciplinary PhD) with offerings in both Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Public Affairs and Administration. The Interdisciplinary Ph.D. program is housed in UMKC’s School of Graduate Studies.

Entrepreneurship and Innovation

The Institute of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Missouri-Kansas City delivers exceptional entrepreneurship education and research programs. It is ranked among the top 25 undergraduate and graduate entrepreneurship programs in the United States by The Princeton Review. Nine full-time faculty members in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at IEI are productive scholars who regularly publish in top-tier academic journals in entrepreneurship and related fields. Three more faculty members are joining us next fall. We are committed to building one of the best doctoral programs in the country and training the next generation of entrepreneurship professors.

Public Affairs and Administration

The Ph.D. program in Public Affairs and Administration (PAA) is designed to prepare students for research careers in universities, public, and nonprofit agencies, or for other roles in which research training is needed. This degree is designed for those with a strong interest in and ability to successfully engage in research and who exhibit promise as skillful teachers.

Students work closely with faculty advisors throughout their studies to develop a personalized program for their specific needs. Click here for a list of our doctoral faculty, who are nationally recognized as leading scholars in their fields.

This degree program is part of UMKC’s Interdisciplinary Ph.D. program, which encompasses a wide range of disciplines from throughout the university. Faculty members in the PAA program are drawn from the Public Affairs and Business Administration departments of the Bloch School and from the Political Science department of the College of Arts & Sciences.

The PAA area can serve as a co-discipline for a doctoral student’s plan of study.

One of the great things I love about the Bloch School is the diversity of backgrounds, experiences, and disciplines of its people. Not only does it enrich the learning in the classroom, it also fosters a unique atmosphere for collaborations in research, community service, and career development and makes it a great place to be!
