Michael Song Named Among Top 1% of Researchers

Release Date: Nov 05, 2008

Once again, the Bloch School's Michael Song, PhD, has been named among the top researchers in the world for innovation management.

The International Association of Management of Technology (IAMOT) has recognized Song as one of the top 50 authors of technology and innovation management over the last five years based on a quantitative analysis of research from 2003-2007.

This exceptional achievement places Song among the top 1 percent of all researchers in the field.

He will be presented with a formal award at this year's annual IAMOT conference, April 5-9 in Orlando, Fla.

Song is executive director for the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the  Bloch School where he also holds the Charles N. Kimball, MRI/Missouri Endowed Chair in Management of Technology.

His research interests include technology entrepreneurship, valuation of new ventures and emerging technologies, risk assessment, methods for measuring values of technology and R&D projects, and technology portfolio management.

He has developed several global "bench-mark models" of new product development process designs as well as a technology risk assessment model and option approach to evaluate new technologies and start-up companies.

Under Song’s leadership, the Bloch School founded the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation in 2005.

In 2007, Song was ranked as the world’s top scholar in innovation management according to a study in the Journal of Product Innovation Management (Spring 2007, Vol. 24, No. 3).

In 2008, Song was also ranked among the nation’s leading scholars by in-cities, an editorial arm of the Essential Science Indicators, which placed him in the top 100 most-cited scientists in economics and business.
