Bolman Named Interim Dean

BLOCH NAMES BOLMAN INTERIM DEAN

Gail Hackett, UMKC Provost & Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, has announced that Bloch School Professor Lee G. Bolman, Marion Bloch/Missouri Chair in Leadership, has accepted the position of interim dean of the Henry W. Bloch School of Business and Public Administration, effective July 1, 2008, and continuing until the appointment of a permanent dean for the School. Bolman has been with the Bloch School since 1993, and takes over for O. Homer Erekson, who is stepping down after serving the Bloch School for the past six years.

Dr. Bolman’s work as an author, scholar, consultant and lecturer on the relationship between organizations and leadership has led to his inclusion on lists of America’s top management thinkers.  Dr. Bolman has co-authored, with Terry Deal, numerous books on leadership and organizations, including The Wizard and the Warrior: Leading with Passion and Power; Reframing Organizations: Artistry, Choice, and Leadership; Leading with Soul: an Uncommon Journey of SpiritReframing the Path to School Leadership; Escape from Cluelessness: a Guide for the Organizationally-ChallengedBecoming a Teacher Leader; and Modern Approaches to Understanding and Managing Organizations. Their books have been translated into more than ten languages.  Dr. Bolman has also contributed numerous articles in scholarly and professional journals, as well as teaching cases and book chapters. He has a B.A. in History and a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from Yale University.
